Former Bookkeeper Gets Prison Sentence

DES MOINES, Iowa—Linda Lee Clark, a former bookkeeper for SCICAP CU, has been sentenced to prison for embezzling nearly $2.5 million.

U.S. District Court Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger sentenced Clark, 68, to 78 months in prison for embezzlement by a credit-union employee, KCCI.com reported.

Clark was ordered to serve five years of supervised release after her imprisonment and to pay $2,494,809.33 in restitution.

In July, Clark pled guilty to a United States Attorney's Information charging her with embezzlement by a credit-union employee.

Clark’s crime eventually led to the $2-million, Chariton, Iowa-based CU being closed by state regulators last August. The $534-million Community 1st Credit Union of Ottumwa, Iowa, immediately assumed most of SCICAP Credit Union’s members, assets and loans.

Prosecutors have stated that Clark admitted to taking members’ money and keeping it secret by maintaining two sets of records.
