Forecasts for Weak Holiday Spending Too Scrooge-ish, Survey Suggests

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—If consumers’ outlook on holiday spending is any indication of an impending recession, forecasts for an economic downturn in the near term are way too Scrooge-ish.

A new survey by OpenX and The Harris Poll reports 50% of shoppers are already contemplating holiday gifts, with 37% responding purchasing has already begun, stated WWD.com in its analysis.

Similar to findings in other holiday reports this year, OpenX and The Harris Poll found consumer optimism to be fueling holiday spending.

When asked about confidence in the economy improving next year, 77% of Millennials responded positively.

Further, one-third of total responders admitted to planning on spending more than they did last year,  WWD.com said.
