BATON ROUGE, La.–Jordan Taylor, a 20-year-old supermarket worker whose kind gesture toward an autistic teen became a viral video, has been awarded a new car by a credit union.
Neighbors Credit Union here presented Taylor’s mother, Teresa Taylor, with keys to a new Chevrolet Cruze, during a presentation ceremony. Jordan Taylor was unable to attend because he is enrolled in classes at Grambling State University.
Taylor’s act of kindness shot to Internet fame after the father of 17-year-old Jack Ryan Edwards shot a video of Taylor allowing his son to help stock orange juice in the Rouse’s grocery store. Soon after it was posted, there were thousands of responses in social media Coverage appeared in newspapers, websites and TV news reports across the country, and a crowdfunding account created by Edwards’ sister has raised $100,000 to help pay Taylor’s college tuition.
All of that has now been followed with the presentation of the new car by Neighbors Credit Union.
"We are so proud of Jordan for pursuing his dream of becoming a math teacher by enrolling at Grambling State University," Neighbors President and CEO Steve Webb said in a statement released by the credit union. "We are elated that Neighbors is able to provide a car for Jordan to visit his family while he is away at college."
