HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.–Following a major cyber incident that shut down or affected operations at approximately 15,000 car dealerships across the U.S., CDK Global is reporting that “substantially all” of the dealers that use its software are now back online.
CDK Global provides to auto dealers what is the equivalent of core processing services to credit unions.
‘Ahead of Schedule’
“We are happy to report that we are ahead of the anticipated schedule,” the company said on its customer care phone line, according to a CNN report.
The outage began on June 19, after two cyber incidents halted the company’s systems, which
manage everything from scheduling to records. It now says it is working actively to bring other applications live and expected its customer relationship management system to begin rolling out on July 4.
Close to $1 Billion in Potential Disruptions
An estimate by Anderson Economic Group suggested CDK’s system collapse could result in approximately $944 million in direct losses due to business interruptions for affected car dealers if the outage lasted a full three weeks.
The shutdown was the first issue discussed during a panel featuring car dealers at Origence’s Lending Tech Live ’24 event in San Diego, as CUToday.info reported here.
