SEOUL, South Korea—Will the foldable smartphone hit the market in 2018?
Likely, according to a new report that indicates the foldable phone, which expands to allow for a much bigger screen that would more easily display a website, will first reach consumers thanks to Samsung.
As CUToday.info has reported, a number of phone manufacturers were considering the foldable phone, or some form of expandable-screen device, last year.
As Samsung Electronics posted its fourth quarter and fiscal year 2017 results, the company revealed that it is planning to focus on foldable OLED displays for smartphones, among other things as part of the 2018 roadmap, the Kashmir Monitor reported.
The company stated, "As for the mobile business, Samsung will continue its efforts to differentiate its smartphones by adopting cutting-edge technologies, such as foldable OLED displays."
It made an even more specific quote during its earnings call, clearly saying the cutting-edge differentiation of "foldable OLED smartphones" would happen in 2018, the Kashmir Monitor reported.
