BOCA RATON, Fla.— Flagler Credit Union has obtained the naming rights to Florida Atlantic University’s football stadium in a deal worth $22.5 million, according to a CBS News report.
Florida Atlantic's board of trustees approved the 15-year deal Tuesday that gives Flagler CU--a division of Michigan-based, $2.3-billion Dort Financial--the naming rights to the school's football stadium, the CU announced in a joint release.
The stadium would be called Flagler Credit Union Stadium. The field will remain named for Howard Schnellenberger, who was FAU's first coach and the person who essentially built the program from scratch starting in the late 1990s, CBS News said. The name change will begin with Wednesday’s 2024 Boca Raton
Bowl.
The deal — both in terms of total and average value — would be the biggest publicly known naming rights agreement for any school in the American Athletic Conference currently with an on-campus stadium, CBS News said.
According to the release, in addition to football stadium naming rights, the relationship includes an extensive multimedia arrangement with Florida Atlantic Athletics for all varsity programs. Flagler Credit Union will also participate in FAU student and alumni engagement opportunities and have marketing activations with Florida Atlantic’s Career Center and the university’s Business Mentoring program.
"We are thrilled and honored to formalize an incredible partnership with Flagler Credit Union,” said FAU Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White. “This is a historic agreement for Florida Atlantic University and among the largest stadium naming deals in the Group of Five. It not only speaks to the remarkable momentum of FAU, but to the leadership at Flagler Credit Union. They have deep ties to our area and have been a trusted community partner for nearly 25 years. We welcome FCU, its employees and its members to the Owl family and look forward to the affiliation for many years to come.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Florida Atlantic University on the naming rights for Flagler Credit Union Stadium. The partnership underscores our commitment to supporting our community,” said Brian Waldron, president and CEO of Dort Financial and Flagler Credit Union. “This stadium is more than just a venue — it’s a place where memories are made, where athletes, alumni, and fans come together to celebrate teamwork, dedication, and excellence. We are honored to partner with a university that shares our values of supporting community and enriching lives.”
