Five Videos On Detecting Fraud

ALEXANDRIA, Va.—NCUA has released five new videos on how to detect and head off employee fraud.

The videos complete an eight-part series titled, "Deterring, Preventing and Detecting Employee Dishonesty,” and all are available on the agency’s YouTube channel.

The new videos address separation of duties, employee and family member accounts, file maintenance transactions, and vault cash counts. Another video highlights the possible behavioral red flags and warning signs of potential fraud, summarizes the main points of the video series and provides information on additional resources.

The first three episodes, released in July, outlined the importance of maintaining a policy on employee fraud and conducting surprise cash counts.

The videos were developed in partnership with CUNA Mutual Group and feature staff from NCUA's Office of Small Credit Union Initiatives.

The issue of fraud inside credit unions was recently the subject of a disagreement between NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz and Board Member Mark McWatters during an NCUA board meeting. Coverage of that can be found here.
