First Tech FCU Provides More than $30K in Wildfire Relief Grants

BEAVERTON, Ore.–First Tech FCU has provided more than $30,000 in wildfire relief grants across Oregon, California and Washington, where many of its members and employees reside.

The funds have been distributed to:

  • California. $10,000 to Silicon Valley Community Foundation for the San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties Wildfire Relief Fund.  The Wildfire Relief Fund is currently focused on providing grants to organizations working on response, relief and recovery phases of the fires.
  • Oregon. $10,000 to the 2020 Oregon Community Rebuilding Fund. Communities across the state are grappling with loss and still face immediate danger due to wildfires. The 2020 Community Rebuilding Fund, established at the request of Gov. Kate Brown and launched in partnership with Meyer Memorial Trust, Oregon Community Foundation and The Ford Family Foundation, is a place to bring private and philanthropic donations together to work collectively for Oregonians whose communities have been leveled by wildfires this season, the credit union said.
  • Oregon. $10,000 to the Rogue Credit Union Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund. "The Rogue Credit Union Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund is administering grants to local non-profit organizations that are working directly to meet the needs of families and communities affected by the wildfires in Southern Oregon. All donations will assist with rebuilding our communities, relief aid and efforts for the areas affected by the Almeda/Glendower Fire, Obenchain Fire and surrounding fires.
  • Washington. $5,000 to the Northwest Credit Union Foundation NWCUF Disaster Relief Fund. “The Northwest Credit Union Foundation has activated its disaster relief program to assist credit unions and their employees impacted by the wildfires,” First Tech said. “Outreach to members of the Northwest Credit Union Foundation found nearly 50 credit unions directly in the path of the fires. Hundreds of CU employees were forced to evacuate, and branches in evacuation zones closed across Washington, Oregon and Idaho. The NWCUF grants will bring additional support to credit union employees, board members, and volunteers.”

‘A Devastating Blow’

“In a year that has hit hard for so many in our communities, the recent fires across the West were an additional and devastating blow,” said Nicole Frisch, senior director community engagement for First Tech. “We’re honored to be able to do our part through Disaster Relief giving and matching employee donations to help support recovery and rebuilding for individuals and families who need it most.”
