BURNSVILLE, Minn.–For the first time in its 90-year history, Firefly Credit Union opened a student-run branch.
The credit union has cut the ribbon on the facility at Burnsville High School here, where representatives from the school district joined with Firefly executive team members and employees who had been involved in the planning of the branch, as well as family members of students who help run the branch.
Representatives from the Minnesota Credit Union Network and Foundation were also in attendance to award Firefly with a certificate in recognition of the credit union’s “efforts as a Champion of Financial Education for the young people in [the] community.”
The branch is open to both students and staff before and after school. An ATM is also located outside of the new branch to provide students with access to their funds in low dollar denominations.
Separately, Firefly also opened another branch this month at Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, Minn.
