Filene: Years On Job, Accounting/Finance Background Don’t Help CEO Strategic Thinking

MADISON, Wis.–Filene Research Institute has introduced new research it says shows credit union CEOs are great strategic thinkers, but there remains room for improvement.

According to Filene, years on the job does not equate to improved ability to think strategically, that those with backgrounds in finance/accounting have lower scores in strategic thinking, and that CEOs of larger credit unions find it harder to make decisions.

Offering some insights into the strategic thinking process, Filene’s research is being presented in the form of an infographic that breaks strategic thinking down into individual components: anticipate, challenge, interpret, decide, align, and learn.

Each of those components is then explored in the infographic, which assesses how they provide insights into how strategic thinking abilities directly impact leaders' decision-making and aptitude for managing challenges.
