SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.–The hardest part of innovation isn’t coming with ideas, according to Mark Meyer—it’s applying a framework or rubric that asks if the idea is feasible and viable demonstrating whether it can work—in short, it's incubation.
Speaking to Filene’s Big.Bright.Minds. meeting here, Meyer, CEO of the Filene Research Institute, said the research institute’s work has really evolved to where it is now about ensuring viability and feasibility of the innovations the organization focuses on and puts forward. A key aspect of the meeting, he said, is to expose credit unions to that work and how other credit unions are either piloting or implementing some of Filene’s research to “pull back the curtain…on people working hard on your behalf.”
‘Must Create Change’
“All this work does absolutely no good if it's not put into practice and doesn’t create change; that's the other half to the equation,” he said, adding that initiatives must ultimately be good for credit unions, members, and communities.
In the end, said Meyer, he wants credit unions to have “WTF” moments: “What the Filene?” in which action is taken on some of the organization’s many findings.
