Filene Announces Several New Events For 2018

Mark Meyer

WASHINGTON–The Filene Research Institute has announced a number of events for 2018 at which credit union leaders will be able to engage one-on-one with academics and experts to apply key research findings to credit union operations and strategy.

The announcement was made during the Filene Chairman Breakfast at CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference.

“As we look forward to the future of credit unions, it is encouraging to see the credit union industry focus on how to create meaningful change in the lives of credit union members and in their communities,” said Mark Meyer, Filene CEO. “At each of our Center of Excellence events and big.bright.minds, we have this incredible opportunity to bring our members together, push the boundaries to think differently, and get ahead of changes happening in our industry to ensure credit unions continue to be a valued partner in the lives of their members. It’s a pretty big darn deal and there’s no better time than now to be a part of this.”

In addition to this year’s big.bright.minds, Filene announced its 2018 research colloquia series. These events—each connected to one of the five Centers of Excellence exploring topics critical to the future of consumer finance—go in-depth into the research to apply learnings into actionable next steps for credit unions, Filene said.

Filene member credit unions attending these free events will be able to directly interact with research authors, academics and industry experts:

  • April 10: Center for Performance & Operational Excellence at Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif.
  • April 12: Center for Emerging Technology at University of California, Irvine, Calif.
  • June 14: Center for Organizational Entrepreneurship at Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.
  • Sept. 27, Center for War for Talent at University of Texas, Austin, Texas
  • Dec. 6-7, big.bright.minds, San Diego

New this year, the April colloquia are organized as a research one-two punch, Filene said. Attendees will learn about creating policies and processes that meet members’ needs with as little friction as possible, immediately followed by a day of learning about how technology can help credit unions respond in times of crises.
