NEW YORK–The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions has revealed some of the names of those who will be addressing its annual meeting in St. Louis later this year.
The Federation said the latest to agree to speak is Patrick Adams, CEO of the $250-million St. Louis Community Credit Union. SLCC is CDFI-certified and has a “passion and a purpose to serve the underserved in the City and County of St. Louis,” the Federation Said.
Among the innovations put in place by St. Louis Community:
- Micro-branches embedded in social service and workforce development agencies
- Payday loan alternatives to help their members avoid the average Missouri interest rate of over 400% for payday loans
- Prosperity Connection, a 501(c)(3) non-profit affiliate providing free financial coaching, group seminars and scholarship funds
- Red Dough Money Centers that provide a low-cost alternative to payday lenders and check cashers
“Part of SLCCU's success is derived from their leadership role in the economic development of St. Louis and the community partnerships they have developed,” the Federation said. “In this session, Patrick Adams will be joined by Tishaura O. Jones, Treasurer for the City of St. Louis, and Reverend Starsky Wilson, president and CEO of the Deaconess Foundation, a faith-based grant-making organization devoted to the well-being of children in St. Louis.”
