WASHINGTON—Federal employees are once again being asked to justify their roles to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Politico reported.
Late Friday, public-sector workers across multiple government agencies received emails with the subject line: “What did you do last week? Part II.” The messages, sent by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), reached employees at the State Department, the Energy Department, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the IRS, the National Institutes of Health, and the Veterans Administration, according to Politico.
The email, which arrived four hours after the close of business, instructed employees to respond with “approximately five bullet points describing what you accomplished last week” and to copy their manager, Politico reported. It also set a recurring deadline: “Going forward, please complete the above task each week by Mondays at 11:59 p.m. ET,” Politico said.
The request has added to growing uncertainty among federal workers amid large-scale layoffs orchestrated by DOGE in recent weeks. The initiative, led by Elon Musk with the backing of President Donald Trump, aims to significantly downsize the federal workforce, Politico said.
