WASHINGTON—The Federal Trade Commission has announced the panels for its workshop today, cohosted with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, to examine issues affecting the accuracy of traditional credit reports as well as employment and tenant background screening reports.
The December workshop seeks to bring together stakeholders—including industry representatives, consumer advocates, and regulators—for a wide-ranging public discussion on the changes in the landscape over recent years that may affect the accuracy of consumer reports, such as changes in legal requirements and technological developments, the FTC said.
The workshop will include four panel discussions examining such issues as:
- The current practices of furnishers of information and compliance with accuracy requirements
- Current accuracy topics for traditional credit reporting agencies
- Accuracy considerations for background screening
- Navigating the dispute process
The workshop will also feature remarks by FTC Commissioner Noah Joshua Phillips and CFPB Deputy Director Brian Johnson.
The workshop, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 9 a.m. ET. It will be held at the Constitution Center, 400 7th St., SW, Washington, D.C., and will be webcast live on the FTC’s website.
