WASHINGTON—The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) has extended its moratorium on foreclosures and evictions to Feb. 28. The policy applies to government-sponsored enterprise (GSE)-backed single-family mortgages and GSE-owned properties.
On his first day in office, President Biden also signed an executive order related to foreclosures and evictions.
FHFA Director Dr. Mark Calabria said the extension will "keep our communities safe, and families in their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic." The moratorium was previously extended through Jan. 31.
Last week, the FHFA extended several of its loan origination flexibilities until Feb. 28. The agency has extended these several times in order to ensure continued support for borrowers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
