FCC Offers Additional Guidance Around Reassigned Number Database

WASHINGTON—Through a new Public Notice, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued additional guidance regarding Reassigned Number Database information for callers.

While the database has certain limitations, the expanded data population will allow callers to rely on the database’s safe harbor for many more numbers than was previously possible, NAFCU noted.

In the 2018 Reassigned Numbers Order, the Commission addressed the problem of unwanted calls to consumers with numbers reassigned from a previous consumer by establishing a single, comprehensive Reassigned Numbers Database, which went live on Nov. 1, 2021.

“Callers can now check the database to ensure they reach consumers that expect their calls and avoid calling consumers with reassigned numbers who may not wish to receive the call,” NAFCU said.
