SALT LAKE CITY— The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a serial robber who has been hitting both banks and credit unions in Idaho and Utah over the past six months.
Dubbed “The Great Outdoors Bandit” because of his outdoorsy attire, the man has worn the same green baseball cap and dark sunglasses during all the crimes, according to FBI Salt Lake City Spokesperson Sandra Yi Barker.
The most recent robbery by the Great Outdoors Bandit took place in Orem, Utah, when the suspect robbed the Alpine Credit Union. In that robbery, the man approached the teller and handed the teller a note, put the money in a brown paper bag that he brought with him, then fled on foot.
The first robbery occurred on Dec. 21, 2016, when he is suspected of robbing the U.S. Bank located inside the Albertson’s store in Boise, Idaho. He is also a suspect in a robbery of Idaho Central Credit Union and Bank of the West.
The serial robber is described by the FBI as possibly Hispanic, Native American or Middle Eastern, 30 to 50 years old, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, between 140 and 160 pounds with a skinny build and black hair.
