Ex-Employee Ordered To Stand Trial Over Missing $1.7 Million

OSHKOSH, Wis.–A former employee of Oshkosh Central Credit Union has been ordered to stand trial in a civil case involving $1.7 million in missing cash.

Winnebago County Circuit Judge Karen Seifert ordered a trial Monday, July 20, for Melisa Beyer, 36, in an ongoing lawsuit the now-defunct credit union filed against Beyer in 2014, according to TheNorthwestern.com.

Oshkosh Central CU has since been merged into Community First Credit Union, Appleton, Wis., but it filed the suit against Beyer in June of 2014 seeking to get the court to order that a boat, motor and trailer, three vehicles and a camper alleging that the all had been purchased with stolen member funds, TheNorthwestern.com reported.

In May of 2014 an audit found that $1.7 million was missing from the credit union’s vault. That led to the dismissal of Beyer as well as CEO Mark Patchak. Beyer has since admitted to falsifying the credit union’s financial reports but also said she did not take the money or use it to buy personal items.

Both the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions and the FBI are investigating. To date, no criminal charges have been filed, according to TheNorthwestern.com.
