PECOS, Texas–A former credit union CEO here has been sentenced to prison as part of a high-profile case involving a politician, while in Oklahoma a former credit union teller has been arrested for an alleged embezzlement.
In Texas, Jimmy Dutchover, the former president/CEO of the $13.5-mnillion Reeves County Teachers CU, was sentenced by a federal judget to eight months in federal prison for helping to steer a $10,000 loan to benefit of Sen. Carlos Uresti, a longtime San Antonio Democrat who is now serving a 12-year prison term for his involvement in a now-defunct San Antonio oil field services company that defrauded investors.
As CUToday.info reported here in May, Dutchover entered a guilty plea even though at the time the chairman of the credit union said he was not aware of it.
Dutchover also entered a guilty plea for failing to file a federal income tax.
Dutchover has been ordered to pay a $4,000 fine as well as taxes, penalties and interest to the IRS, an amount that has yet to be determined. Upon release, Dutchover will will be placed on three years of supervised release.
Former CU Employee Charged in Embezzlement
Separately, in Altus, Okla., a former credit union employee has been arrested on charges of allegedly embezzling $55,000.
According to Altus Police, Brittany Carney took the money from the accounts of three deceased members of Red River Federal Credit Union, as well as two active account-holders, KSWO reported. The theft allegedly took place between December 2016 and February of this year.
In addition, investigators are alleging Carney of also stole $18,000 from the Altus youth soccer league, where she served as treasurer.
Prosecutors have not filed charges yet, but Carney is being held in the Jackson County Jail, KSWO reported.
