INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, Minn.–A group of classmates from CUNA Management School’s class of 2020 along with credit unions across four states have created the “#weCUgrads Challenge,” and they are now challenging other credit unions to join them in a national effort to celebrate 2020 graduates through social media.
The initiative comes in recognition that graduations of all kinds have been cancelled for all types of classes graduating this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Backers of the plan are seeking at least one credit union in every state to be a part of the effort during the week of May 4.
“Credit unions can use this opportunity to come together across the country and flood social media with some positivity,” said Joel Strozewski, SEG branch manager with Heartland Credit Union.
Strozewski said credit unions are known for making a difference in members’ lives through their finances and supporting the communities they serve, adding that since the disruption of everyone’s lives, credit unions have not only stepped up to support their member’s financial needs, but continue to find creative ways to serve their communities while social distancing.
In discussions with classmates at CUNA Management School, as well as others, an idea formed that credit unions could create the #weCUgrads challenge with the idea of celebrating 2020 graduates through social media.
Opportunity to be Positive
“We talked about the plight of the graduate this year and the opportunities that have changed due to the pandemic. What better way to celebrate our graduates than put the power of people helping people across the country at work?” said Strozewski.
All credit unions are being urged to join the #weCUgrads challenge May 4-8.
“This is an opportunity to post positive messages and highlight all graduates through posts on social media. Credit unions are encouraged to get creative and adapt the campaign to fit their individual brand and style,” Strozewski said.
As of this reporting, Strozewski said 27 credit unions have now signed on.
