GRAND BLANC, Mich. – ELGA Credit Union has relaunched its debit and credit cards using recycled plastic.
The new offering comes via a partnership with Thales, which in turn is offering the “Made with Ocean Plastic.” According to the company, the Ocean Plastic cards are made using 70% plastic cleared from coastal areas and one card contains roughly the equivalent of one reclaimed plastic bottle.
Elga CU said it is the first credit union in Michigan to have all its cards made from Ocean Plastic.
“In addition to supporting ocean pollution cleanup efforts, each card comes equipped with contactless capabilities,” Elga CU said.
‘Responsible Stewardship’
Added President and CEO Terry Katzur, “ELGA Credit Union is promoting responsible stewardship of our planet and upgrading our card stock made from Ocean Plastic. The decision was an easy one when you understand the amount of plastic in our oceans today. We hope that our members will appreciate the new upgraded features and design.”
The $1.44-billion ELGA Credit Union has approximately 94,000 members.
