DUBUQUE, Iowa — Saying that just a few finishing touches remain, Dupaco Community CU has cut the ribbon on its new headquarters inside the renovated Dupaco Voices Building.
Dupaco began reconstruction in 2019 on the 174,670 square-foot, five-story structure at 1000 Jackson St. that was originally built in 1924 as part of the Carr, Ryder & Adams Manufacturing Co. after an extensive and thorough evaluation of a multitude of factors, the CU said. According to Dupaco Board Chairman Ron Meyers, these included buying an existing building and new construction.
“Of all the options, we determined the Dupaco Voices Building ultimately would provide the most economic value to our more than 145,000 members,” he said. “The Dupaco Voices Building would offer the best experience for current and future employees, and have the greatest positive impact on our community.”
A ’Natural Fit’
The building got its name from an annual arts festival that was celebrated in the building from 2006-2015 called Voices from the Warehouse District Arts Festival. The $2.7-billion Dupaco said it exists to improve the financial well-being of members and is an advocate – or a voice – for all members, and the building’s name, Dupaco Voices Building, became a natural fit.
“Our 74-year heritage was very important,” said Meyers. “And the Dupaco Voices moniker perfectly reflected our credit union structure and mission for past, present and future generations.”
Dupaco reported it currently has over 200 employees utilizing floors 3, 4 and 5, including back office departments that include IT, HR, marketing, accounting and finance, contact center, facilities and project management. The Dupaco Voices Building will welcome its first tenant later this month, which will be leasing a portion of the 2nd floor.
Other Space Plans
According to Joe Hearn, Dupaco President/CEO, plans are still being finalized for 1st floor space.
“Our board’s vision is for mixed commercial and retail space that can lend additional vibrancy to the Millwork district both day and night,” said Hearn.
The event recognized the hundreds of individuals, companies and supporters who had an active role in this project and recognized the businesses that helped breathe new life into the Dupaco Voices Building.
Dupaco has more than 144,000 members.
