DuPont Community CU Forms Charitable Foundation

WAYNESBORO, Va.–DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) has launched the DCCU Cares Foundation, which it said is designed to formalize and expand its longstanding charitable efforts.

According to the $1.8-billion credit union, the DCCU Cares Foundation will accomplish its purpose by extending its ability to empower individual success and self-sufficiency through financial education and resources.

“The DCCU Cares Foundation partners with service providers who align with and contribute to its key philanthropic focus areas of financial wellness, promotion of financial education, member and community engagement, and community partnerships,” the credit union said in a statement.

Dupont Community said its annual scholarship program will now be part of the foundation. It said the awarding of $1,000 scholarships in 33 eligible categories has resulted in over $480,000 in scholarship funds given to students since 1995.

The foundation will be led by Margaret Hersh, executive director, and Sarah Landram, financial wellness program manager.

Board Appointed

A DCCU Cares Foundation board of directors has been appointed to govern the organization, in affiliation with DuPont Community Credit Union, the credit union said.

“The DCCU Cares Foundation goes beyond access to beneficial and affordable financial products and services, by building meaningful relationships through thoughtful strategic philanthropy,” President and CEO Steve Elkiins said in a statement. “By leveraging our existing community involvement in the promotion of financial wellness, we enrich the communities we serve.”
