Dow Chemical Employees CU Finds New Chemistry With Shorter Name

MIDLAND, Mich.– Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union is shortening its name.

After being founded in 1937 to serve employees of Dow and Dow Corning, the credit union has over the subsequent 85 years expanded its FOM to include workers at other companies, retirees, family members and other organization.

Now, the $2.2-billion CU said it plans to shorten its name to Dow Credit Union.

“Simplifying and streamlining our name to Dow Credit Union makes sense for us as we celebrate our heritage and ongoing service to Dow while recognizing the broader base of our membership and our growing role in the Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan,” said CEO Michael Goad. “We look forward to using this name change and brand refresh as an opportunity to reintroduce ourselves to the members and communities we serve.”

Added Board Chair Perry Holmon, “When we began discussing the possibility of a name change, one thing was clear: We wanted that name to celebrate our history and ties to the community while simultaneously clarifying that membership is open to a broader population than it was back in 1937. Ultimately, we determined that simplifying our longstanding name would accomplish both goals and help bring a new energy as we serve our existing members and welcome new ones.”

A ’National Leader’

In announcing the name change, DCECU said it has been a “perennial national leader” in financial rewards for members, and the expanded membership base has helped fuel that continued performance. The credit union noted it has paid Member Giveback rebates and rewards totaling more than $13 million for 2021 and has returned more than $261 million to its members since 1980. In early 2022.

The credit union has more than 75,000 members.
