SAN DIEGO–A man who holds a doctorate in psychological and brain sciences has been arrested here and charged in a string of robberies at San Diego-area credit unions over the past few months.
Karl William Doron, 43, who is also former postdoctoral researcher at UC San Diego sciences, was arrested Tuesday after a teller was robbed at a Sorrento Valley credit union, according to police.
The FBI said the suspect had been under surveillance when a robbery took place at a branch of Navy FCU. Authorities said they believe Doron is also the primary suspect in six robberies at local credit unions between December and February.
According to the FBI, after a surveillance team moved in on Doron he was allegedly captured with a loaded handgun.
Doran has been arraigned in San Diego Superior Court on 10 felony counts of robbery and attempted robbery, and a judge set his bail at $1 million, according to a spokeswoman for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.
