VANCOUVER, B.C.–Central 1 Credit Union has created a video, Some Choices Matter, that is seeing substantial traffic on YouTube and in social media.
Since its June 9 debut, it has seen 5,800 YouTube views, while on Twitter the hashtag #SomeChoicesMatter has a reach of 280,000 and 500,000 impressions.
The video looks at how “important it is to consider what your financial institution does with your deposits,” according to Central 1.
Voiceover on the video states in part, “…Money may be important to you, but banking, that ubiquitous silently efficient channel that your money runs through? For most people it’s just nah, whatever, kind of boring, really. At some point the choice where you bank was probably a default decision made for you or something you gave very little thought to. You probably don’t really care where you bank, you probably think all financial institutions are the same, but they are not.”
Later the voiceover states, “Where you bank matters…This is why it just can’t be a whatever decision…So you need to choose again. Choose to be part of something remarkable. Choose to have an equal voice…Choose democracy. Choose cooperation. Choose local. This is why some choices matter.”
According to the credit union, the goal is to spur a conversation with viewers about where they put their money and why. The video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCGz2_V9FHc
