NEEDHAM, Mass.–Members of Direct Federal Credit Union have notified members of a potential data breach that many have exposed some of their personal data.
According to the $835.8-million credit union, it was informed by its vendor, Wescom Resources Group, of a security incident where member names, Direct Federal account numbers, and Social Security numbers may have been compromised, according to Boston25 News.
It is unclear how many members were affected by the breach.
“While there is no evidence that any information was misused, as part of WRG and Direct Federal’s commitment to data privacy and transparency, we believed it was important for WRG to share this information with our members,” Michael Ferreer, chief member officer with Direct Federal, told the news outlet.
Members are Notified
Boston25 News reported that in February WRG notified the Direct Federal of the security incident and launched an investigation. Members who may have been affected have been contacted by Wescom Resources Group, a CUSO of California-based Wescom Credit Union, and they have the option of enrolling in free credit monitoring services.
