RALEIGH, N.C.— Isaac B. Dickson, Jr., chairman of Carolina Foothills FCU, has been inducted into the African American Credit Union Coalition Hall of Fame.
Dickson was inducted during a ceremony at the AACUC’s annual meeting here.
According to the AACUC, Dickson, a native of Montgomery, Ala., has been a resident of Spartanburg, S.C. since 1981, and has spent nearly 30 years in the temporary employment industry as vice president of The Hiring Authority, Inc. Currently he is the director of marketing for Atchison Transportation Service, a full-service ground transportation service.
In 1991, he was elected to the Board of Carolina Foothills Federal Credit Union, Spartanburg, SC. In 2004, he was elected as the Board Chairman. Dickson is the first African American to be elected to the board. Dickson’s leadership has been instrumental in creating a board that represents the diversity of the membership including age, race and gender.
Dickson served as the Chairman of the South Carolina Credit Union League’s Diversity Committee and as a league board member. Dickson is also a founding member of the African American Credit Union Coalition, serving as its first Secretary.
“This award publicly acknowledges what we at Carolina Foothills already knew, that Isaac Dickson is an indispensable asset, not just for our credit union, but for our entire community,” said the credit union’s president/CEO, Scott Weaver. “We congratulate him on this award.”
The African American Credit Union Hall of Fame seeks to provide access to the history of African Americans in credit unions; to make sure the history is captured and documented for generations to come; to tell the stories of the accomplishments of African Americans in the credit union movement and how they empowered others.
