Development Education Program Donates Funds, Time to Causes

MADISON, Wis.–The Credit Union Development Education (DE) Program has raised more than $60,000 to date in 2017 for several charities and causes, in addition to donating manpower.

The DE program, operated under the auspices of the National Credit Union Foundation, holds four trainings annually and aims to invigorate and educate credit union professionals on credit union history, principles and philosophy. During those trainings participants are asked to complete a specific project that involves planning, fundraising, hands-on work and improves people’s lives in some way.

According to the Foundation, during the first two trainings in 2017, participants were asked to raise funds to support the Helping Hands Project, an organization that provides prosthetic hands to children across the world who have suffered a loss. Those two classes raised a combined $31,000 for the Helping Hands Project.

Separately, earlier this year, a DE Workshop was held in Tampa, Fla., where almost 100 CUDEs gathered and partnered with Pinellas Hope, an organization that provides shelter for the homeless in the Clearwater, Fla. After raising $30,795 for the shelter, the CUDEs then assembled furniture and set-up these apartments so they are move-in ready.
