Delta County CU Pays Members ‘Gividends’

ESCANABA, Mich.—For the second consecutive year Delta County CU paid a special patronage dividend that it calls “Gividends.”

Delta County CU put more than $107,000 in Gividends in eligible member accounts on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day. DCCU President/CEO Brenda Lippens told the Michigan CU League that it ties the dividend payment to Valentine’s Day because the credit union “loves its members.”

“We’re very proud to be able to return cash to our members again this year,” Lippens was quoted by the league’s Michigan Monitor as saying. “Benefits like the Gividends patronage dividend are what make Delta County CU truly unique for our members. It’s our goal – our pledge to our members – that we will always operate Delta County Credit Union with the best interests of the people we serve in mind. That’s the beauty of the cooperative system – no investors demanding a return on their investment, just hardworking people who want to make the most of their money.”

Lippens told the Michigan league that DCCU’s ability to pay the dividend depends on a number of factors, including management’s ability to efficiently operate the credit union.

“While paying a patronage dividend for the second year in a row is great for our members, our top priority has always been, and will continue to be, keeping our members’ money safe,” Lippens told the Michigan Monitor. “The great news is we are doing both.”

The amount paid to members varies based on the relationships they have with the credit union. The more accounts and services the member has the greater the reward.
