Defense Council Kicks Off Annual Meeting With Session on Regulatory Challenges

SAN ANTONIO–The 2022 Defense Credit Union Council Annual Conference has kicked off here, beginning with a session offering an update on legislative and regulatory initiatives and concerns.

The update was delivered during DCUC’s first formal session by John McKechnie, senior partner at Total Spectrum, who joined DCUC President/CEO Anthony Hernandez to share his insights.

During the session, Hernandez invited everyone interested to join the quarterly Military Advocacy Committee meetings for more updates.

Following the Advocacy Update, the Department of Defense Credit Union of the Year Awards were presented to:

  • The Department of the Army recognized Navy Federal CU at USAG Fort Meade.
  • The Department of the Navy honored Navy Federal CU at Naval Base San Diego, and Frontwave CU at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.
  • The Department of the Air Force selected Travis CU at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., and Global CU at Fairchild Air Force Base, WA.

‘Something Special’

The annual event brings together leaders from across the credit union industry for the latest updates on issues affecting credit unions serving our nation’s military and veteran communities, according to the DCUC.

“We look forward to our Annual Conference each year,” said Hernandez. “While every conference and event is a great opportunity to reconnect and recommit to our collective mission, there is something special about our Annual Conference. Every year, we strive to provide more value to our members and this year is no different. I’m excited for our members to experience what we’ve been working on for the last year. It promises to be a conference to remember.”

Filene Event

Prior to the start of the annual meeting, the Defense Council also partnered with Filene Research Institute for a Filene research event “Building your Future through Infrastructures and Ecosystems,” which was held over two days, where attendees heard from experts from Filene’s Centers for Data Analytics, Emerging Technology and Community Social Impact.

Funds Raised for YMCA

DCUC kicked off the week with its 2022 Annual VADM Vincent Lascara Golf Tournament.

The golf tournament also serves as the start of DCUC’s Conference with a Purpose, which this year supports the Armed Services YMCA.
