Defense Council Announces CU Exec Winners of Scholarships

WASHINGTON– The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) announced the winners of the George E. Myers Scholarship for 2019 at its Defense Matters Forum.

Recipients of the $3,500 scholarship were Susan Clarke of Air Force FCU; Linda Crane of Global CU; Meagan “Maggie” Sayer of Keys FCU; and Darlene Wilkerson pf Meridian MS Air National Guard FCU.

The George E. Myers Scholarship was established in 1996 in honor of Col. George E. Myers, USA (Ret.). Colonel Myers was an Executive Director of the Council and selected to the first DCUC Hall of Honor in August 2000. The Fund’s purpose is to provide scholarships for volunteers, management, and/or staff of DCUC member credit unions so they can further their professional credit union education, knowledge and leadership skills.

Clarke serves as an Internal Auditor responsible for examining and evaluating credit union activities for Air Force FCU. She plans to attend the 29th Annual Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors conference to continue her education and development within the auditor’s profession.

Crane has worked in the credit union movement for 17 years and serves, as an executive administrative assistant at Global CU. She is extremely passionate about young credit union professionals, which lead her to start and lead the Inland Northwest Young Credit Union Professional group. She plans to attend the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC).

Sayer is the president and CEO of Keys FCU and has been a member of the credit union movement for almost 13 years. She said she was honored to have the opportunity to attend the 2019 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference, as no Keys FCU CEO has attended this conference in more than 15 years.

Wilkerson is the president and CEO of Meridian MS Air National Guard FCU and has served in the credit union movement for more than 15 years. “Darlene is committed to serving her credit union members to the best of their ability. She is excited to have the opportunity to attend the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC),” DCUC said.

Since 1997, DCUC said it has awarded 53 scholarships totaling over $150,000 that has provided members an opportunity to partake in educational forums and classes (either at the State or National level) at virtually little or no cost to their credit union.
