WASHINGTON—Defense credit unions were given an update on cybersecurity-related issues as well as a forecast for the upcoming mid-term elections during the Defense Matters Brunch hosted by the Defense Credit Union Council.
The event was held in conjunction with CUNA’s GAC.
This year’s event featured two guest speakers, Amy Walter and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Roy Ross, in addition to a DCUC advocacy update from DCUC President and CEO Anthony Hernandez.
DCUC, which said it is committed to technology and innovation in the credit union space, invited Ross to speak about cybersecurity.
“Ross’ experience in the Army and serving as OMNICommander’s chief information security officer gives him a critical understanding of the challenges faced by credit unions serving military members today and how to protect their financial lives,” DCUC said.
Walter, spoke to attendees about her take on the upcoming midterm elections and the issues she sees taking the forefront.
“Walter is known for her nonpartisan political analysis. As credit unions prepare to Hike the Hill during the GAC, Walter’s analysis is crucial in helping to shape these conversations,” DCUC said.
‘Important Perspectives’
“I’m very happy to be in-person with everyone again,” said Hernandez. “The connections we build and information we can exchange in person is vital to our industry’s success. Both speakers today provided important perspectives that will allow our credit unions to see a changing environment as they focus on serving our military. I’m excited to continue these conversations and build on our momentum moving forward.”
Additional highlights from the Defense Matters Brunch included a brief visit from NCUA Chairman Todd Harper and the announcement of a co-branding opportunity for DCUC’s Thank You video for DCUC members.
