SWEETWATER, Fla.–NCUA has approved Dade County FCU to expand its field of membership into Broward County, Fla., adding nearly two-million potential members. Broward County, anchored by Ft. Lauderdale, is just north of Dade County, which is home to Miami.
As CUToday.info reported earlier this year, the NCUA board held a special hearing on the field of membership expansion request. The approval brings Dade County FCU’s potential field of membership to more than 4.5-milion people who live, work, worship, attend school or operate businesses in the South Florida market.
“Dade County Federal Credit Union believes that its current community is an inhibitor to current and future growth as it regularly turns away would-be members from nearby neighboring Broward County who are not eligible to join through their current field of membership,” the credit union said in its field of membership expansion request.
The $1.2-billion DCFCU has approximately 102,000 members.
