CAMP ARIFAN/CAMP BUERHRING, Kuwait–More than 1,000 soldiers finished the 10 Mile Freedom Run/Walk sponsored by the Defense Credit Union Council.
The event was hosted by Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR) at Camp Arifjan and Camp Buehring in Kuwait. The races brought together sailors, Marines, airmen, and soldiers for friendly, competitive events, the DCUC reported.
According to the DCUC, MWR reported more than 600 finishers at Camp Arifjan and more than 450 finishers at Camp Buehring. Each racer received a dri-fit t-shirt and the MWR reported to the DCUC t the racers were pleased with both the shirts and overall event.
Anthony Hernandez, DCUC president/CEO, said he was pleased to see the race continue this year, despite the pandemic.
“MWR programs are an integral part of life on any installation,” said Hernandez. “They provide valuable support for our military members and their families. DCUC has been sponsoring the Freedom Run for many years and will continue to do so.”
Traditionally, the DCUC noted the races are run in conjunction with races in Germany, in addition to the SacTown Run in Sacramento, Calif., and the Credit Union Cherry Blossom race in Washington, which raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. The latter two events were held virtually this year.
