CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait–The Defense Credit Union Council (DCUC) sponsored the DCUC Kuwait 10 Mile Freedom Run/Walk hosted at Camp Arifjan and Camp Buehring here.
The race brings all forces together from sailors, Marines, airmen, and soldiers but also includes international forces such as Brits, Aussies, French, and Canadians. The race was held in conjunction with the Cherry Blossom races in Germany, Washington, and Sacramento, Calif., with funds raised going to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
“The weather was comfortably cool with overcast skies during the race with a reported 615 racers participating in the special event and earning the sponsor-provided participant t-shirt,” reported the DCUC.
The winner of the two combined races was Army Staff Sergeant Joe Kitchell with a time of 1:02:24. Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) reported an outstanding turnout to the event and looks forward to continue the partnership with DCUC for years to come and allow the sponsoring of troops abroad, DCUC said.

- The winners in the men’s Category: SSG Kitchell, Joe (1:02:24), PFC Ndeba, Muragizi (1:04:23), and SGT Varnado, Miguel (1:04:27)
- The winners in the women’s category: MAJ Fisher, Deborah (1:16:23), CW2 Skaw, Melissa (1:16:29), and GS-14 Swanson, Christine (1:20:43).

- The winners in the men’s category were SGT Paul Szustakowski (1:06:45), SGT Aaron Gomez (1:12:38), and 1LT Joshua Colasante (1:13:30).
- The winners in the women’s category were 1LT Stiara Hasen (1:20:51), 2LT Kristel Viyar (1:22:30), and SPC Andrea Sehrick (1:23:38).
