WASHINGTON--Defense Credit Union Council Chief Advocacy Officer Jason Stverak will give a special address Sunday during the Underground event themed “CULTure of a Community,” at the Hay Adams Hotel here.
Stverak will participate in a focused discussion on activism and urgency within the credit union movement, examining how culture drives trust, loyalty, and engagement in today’s digitally connected environment. As financial services debates intensify, including ongoing challenges to the credit union tax status, the session will explore how credit unions can mobilize members and advocates to strengthen their voice beyond traditional lobbying efforts.
The panel will highlight how a purpose-driven, engaged community can help shape public narratives, influence policy outcomes, and protect the future of the credit union movement.“Credit unions were built on purpose, not profit, and that purpose demands action,” said Stverak. “We must organize, educate, and activate our members with urgency and clarity. When our community stands informed and united, our voice is not just heard; it is decisive. That collective strength is our greatest defense and the key to protecting what makes credit unions essential to the communities we serve.”
