DATCU To Announce Stadium Naming Rights Deal, Additional Partnerships With University Today

CORINTH, Texas – DATCU has entered into an agreement with the University of North Texas that makes it the exclusive financial institution for the university and gives it naming rights to the UNT football stadium.

DATCU began as the Denton County Teachers FCU on the campus of North Texas State Teachers College, which eventually became the University of North Texas. Dr. V.Y. Craig, Ross Compton, and 11 others pooled together an initial investment of $650 to charter the CU, which now has $1.578 billion in assets and more than 100,000 members.

DATCU said the partnership extends to the UNT Career Center where the CU will offer advice and soft skill seminars to prepare students for professional careers, as well as experiential training in a number of different fields.

Terms of the deal were not released.

A Great Marriage

“It’s a great marriage between two distinctly Denton institutions,” said Glen McKenzie, DATCU CEO. “We were founded in 1936 by UNT educators and teachers from local school districts for the purpose of serving educators. This partnership honors that original vision and further engrains us into the North Texas region.”

Ceremony Set for Today

The university’s Board of Regents and President Neal Smatresk have finalized the partnership, which is being formally announced at a media event today in the Hub Club of the newly named DATCU Stadium.

Installation of new signage is expected to be completed this summer and in time for UNT’s first football game against the California on Sept. 2, the credit union said.
