Crypto May Have Lost Some Luster, But Not in Wyoming

LARAMIE, Wyo.—Collapsing crytptocurrency values may have stymied some of its momentum, but efforts to bring more cryptocurrency resources to Wyoming continue to move forward.

The local power utility, Black Hills Energy, announced a contract to deliver to MineOne the equivalent of about one-fifth of the energy the entire city of Laramie uses, on average, the Laramie Boomerang reported.

MineOne was identified as the company in an email from Black Hills Energy to the Wyoming Tribune Eagle.

Black Hills Energy said MineOne recently entered into a five-year service agreement involving up to 45 megawatts, with an option to expand to as much as 75 MW. By year’s end, the facility “will represent one of the largest bitcoin mining operations in the region,” the utility stated, according to the Laramie Boomerang.

“This appears to be the biggest such power deal in the state, at least that has been made public. This is according to past reporting and to experts including the University of Wyoming’s Steven Lupien, who is the director of UW’s Center for Blockchain & Digital Innovation, as well as to an executive at the new mining company itself,” the Laramie Boomerang said.
