COLUMBUS, Ohio–Credit unions in the Buckeye State and CUNA will be paying attention to primary elections in Ohio today, where all of the voting is taking place via mail-in ballots.
Credit unions are invested in 12 races and are supporting the incumbent in each contest. Getting particular attention is the race involving Rep. Joyce Beatty (D) in Ohio’s third district. Beatty, who is a subcommittee chair on the Financial Services Committee, is getting what CUNA’s deputy chief advocacy officer for political action, Trey Hawkins, called a “spirited” challenge from Morgan Harper, a former staffer with the CFPB.
Credit unions have made the maximum allowable contribution to Beatty’s campaign.
“We anticipate Rep. Beatty shall prevail,” said Hawkins.
The Ohio primary was originally set to be held in March but was rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and also made a vote-by-mail election only.
