Credit Unions Watching Election Results in 3 States Today

WASHINGTON–Credit unions are paying attention to three elections today.

In Nebraska’s rescheduled congressional primary, CUNA’s Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (CULAC) and the state league are backing the incumbents who are running, all Republicans, including Don Bacon, Adrian Smith and Jeff Fortenberry.

Two other states are hosting special elections.

In Wisconsin’s seventh district, State Sen. Tom Tiffany has the backing of CULAC and the Wisconsin league to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Rep. Sean Duffy. The winner would serve the remainder of Duffy’s term, and will have to run again in November’s general election.

In Southern California, there is a tight race to succeed Rep. Katie Hill, who resigned her seat. Credit unions are backing Democrat Christy Smith in the race against Republican Mike Garcia.

Similar to the race in Wisconsin, today’s election is to fill out the remainder of Hill’s term. The two candidates will likely square off again in November for the full term.
