WILMINGTON, N.C.–Credit unions in the Carolinas and especially the coastal areas are preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Florence, which is expected to be a near-Category 5 storm by the time it hits the mainland.
More than one-million people already have been given mandatory evacuation orders across an area that stretches north into Virginia.
Beyond the coast, credit unions, members and communities inland are bracing for high winds and expected heavy flooding from what forecasters say is expected to be one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the eastern seaboard in decades.
Along the coast, a storm surge of as much as 12 feet is anticipated.
