Credit Unions In Oklahoma Latest To Be Hit With Threats Over ADA, Websites

PLANO, Texas–Even as credit unions are working to find a remedy, credit unions across Oklahoma are being hit with threats of class action lawsuits related to their websites and alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

It’s an issue that has been bedeviling credit unions across the country.

According to the Cornerstone Credit Union Association, which represents CUs in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas, credit unions that are on the receiving end of the demand letters are being asked to provide them to the CCUA so that a determination can be made on how it might best provide assistance.

Several other state associations have already sent cease-and-desist letters to a California-based firm, Pacific Trial Attorneys, which has been sending the demand letters to credit unions.

Both NAFCU and CUNA have been working with Congress on legislation that would help bring the lawsuits to an end. NAFCU has also asked the National Association of Attorneys General to address the growing challenge of lawsuits being filed against CUs related to the ADA and websites, as CUToday.info reported here.
