TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–Credit unions across the country have taken to Twitter and their websites to announce reductions in branch services as a result of staffing shortages due to COVID-19 infections.
First Florida Credit Union said it has extended a suspension of Saturday hours at five locations.
“Like many industries, we’ve experienced a shortage of employees due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. Proactive measures were taken to accommodate the circumstances,” the credit union said, noting it had initially suspended Saturday hours in October of 2021. “Although we anticipated resuming Saturday hours on January 8, a recent uptick in unexpected absences due to the new variant necessitates extending Saturday closures through the end of January. Tentatively, we will resume Saturday hours on February 5, 2022.”
First Florida reminded it does offer Saturday hours at three branches in Jacksonville and two in Tallahassee.
Closures in Georgia, Connecticut
In Augusta, Ga., Health Center Credit Union said on Twitter, “Due to an increase in Coronavirus cases in our area, our branches will be drive-thru only as of Jan. 4, 2022. Lobby access will be via appointment only, and we encourage you to take advantage of our self-service channels…”
In Connecticut, Charter Oak FCU announced on Twitter, “Due to pandemic related staffing shortages, our Long Hill Road branch lobby in Groton is closed. The drive-up lanes will be open regular business hours. Please take advantage of our electronic services, as well.”
