Credit Union in Heart of Wildfires is Appealing for Help

YREKA, Calif.–Siskiyou Credit Union, which serves the area currently being hit by the McKinney Fire, is reaching out to other credit unions for assistance.

The California/Nevada CU Leagues said the credit unions is working to help members and the community grapple with the continuing economic impact of this latest disaster.

“There is a great need for financial assistance from anyone who’s willing and able to donate to our community,” Siskiyou CU CEO Becky Ives told the leagues.

Those seeking to financially help can send funds to:

Siskiyou Credit Union / FBO McKinney Fire (FBO is “for benefit of”)
P.O. Box 1125
Yreka, CA 96097

Additionally, assistance can also be directed to GoFundMe’s McKinney Fire Relief donation site or the American Red Cross’s donation site (which has been activated locally to help victims).

According to the leagues, Ives said there will be long-term effects on Siskiyou County, businesses, and residents going forward, especially for those living along the Klamath River.

Siskiyou CU staff are in contact with local civic leaders to find out what the community’s immediate needs are with respect to residential shelter, livestock shelter, emergency items, food, water, and anything else, the leagues added.

‘Lost Everything’

“Many have lost everything, including a local store, post office, and their community hall, which was the hub of their community,” Ives said.

Besides the McKinney Fire, three smaller fires are also impacting residents across the county, the leagues noted: the Kelsey Creek Fire (southwest of the McKinney Fire), Yeti Fire (west of the McKinney Fire), and Alex Fire (west of the McKinney Fire).

“There is continued concern with what more may lie ahead for Siskiyou County,” Ives told the leagues.
