GLENDALE, Ariz.–Credit Union West’s culture of placing great emphasis on employee satisfaction received wide exposure in a report on AZCentral.com.
The story profiled CEO Bob MacGregor’s effort to ensure morale remains high among the CU’s 200 employees, and included focus on the special commemorative coins the credit union has had minted that have no monetary value but which are used as tokens of appreciation and distributed by MacGregor.
Along with SunWest FCU in of Phoenix, Credit Union West was the only other Arizona institution to make DepositAccounts' list of 100 healthiest credit unions nationally.
Credit Union West also is one of several dozen corporations named one of the Top Companies to Work for in Arizona in 2015 by Republic Media and careerbuilder.com.
The AZCentral.com report noted the $572-million credit union’s employees cross-train in various aspects of serving members.
"I honestly believe that how you grow in this type of business is through great service," MacGregor was quoted as saying, adding that happy employees translate to happy members.
MacGregor stated in the report that he considers the pay at Credit Union West to be average, but he calls the benefits "extraordinary." These include health, dental and other insurance, the costs of which are entirely borne by the Credit Union West on behalf of employees (workers pay the costs to insure spouses and dependents). There's also a 401(k) retirement plan for which Credit Union West matches 5% of salary for workers who contribute, and a pension into which employees do not pay anything.
