WASHINGTON–The Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run is set for Sunday here, while the Credit Union SacTown Run will take place in Sacramento, Calif.
With St. Petersburg, Fla.-based PSCU and Madison, Wis.-based CUNA Mutual as the primary sponsors, the Cherry Blossom Ten-Mile Run and 5K Run-Walk raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
More than 200 members of Congress are involved as honorary race co-chairs, and more than 600 congressional staff members and others from the federal government will be participating in the run that winds its way among many of the capital’s most famous landmarks.
This weekend, when the thousands of participating runners take their places at the starting line, more than $380,000 will have been raised for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, according to organizers. Since 2002, Credit Union Miracle Day, the organizers of the event, reported that more than $8 million has been raised.
“People working together to improve their communities is at the heart of the credit union mission — ‘People Helping People’ is very important to us as an industry,” said Chuck Fagan, PSCU President and CEO. “We are proud to help finance this event that helps ensure children around the country receive the medical treatment they need, while also helping increase awareness on Capitol Hill about the valuable role credit unions play in their local communities.”
PSCU also proudly sends a team of runners to take part in the excitement and challenge of the Washington, D.C., competition. The team is composed of employees from all PSCU locations.
The Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 is also a sanctioned event by the Professional Road Running Association and a total of $100,500 in prize money and bonuses is up for grabs this year.
The Credit Union SACTOWN Run will also feature 10-mile and 5k race distances, as well as the UC Davis Children’s Hospital Miracle Mile fun run and fitness walk. The race begins and ends at the California State Capitol and is held in conjunction with the Sacramento Running Association.
