WAUSAU, Wis.–A candidate for Congress on whom credit unions placed their chips has won a special election here for the 7th congressional district.
State Sen. Tom Tiffany won the Republican primary in a special election held to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former Rep. Sean Duffy in September 2019. Tiffany won 57% of the vote, defeating Jason Church in a race more competitive than many had expected.
Tiffany will now face Tricia Zunker, who won the Democratic primary. The two will face off in an election to represent what has been a Republican-leaning district.
CUNA’s political action fund, CULAC, along with the Wisconsin league, had made the maximum allowable contribution to Tiffany’s campaign.
Meanwhile, credit unions are also paying close attention to the Super Tuesday races on March 3. While neutral in the presidential primaries, more than 150 House and Senate seats are also in play in Alabama, Arkansas, California, North Carolina and Texas.
