County Commission OK’s Big HQ Expansion

MELBOURNE, Fla.—Space Coast Credit Union has been approved for a zoning change that will allow it to add four structures to its Baytree-area headquarters, as part of a long-term plan to add up to 600 jobs there.

The Brevard County Commissioners unanimously approved a zoning change that will allow the credit union to build its proposed three office buildings and a 500-vehicle employee parking garage, all of them 55 feet tall.

It would be a $30-million project for the site, and the approval came over the objections of some local residents. The commission vote came after credit union’s attorney promised that the credit union would modify its traffic improvement plans and provide added vegetation buffers between its headquarters campus and the nearby 461-home gated residential community.
